Hi, i am playing london system as a white and sometime i have a situation when my opponent play e5 as a first move. What should I do, take that pawn or somehow defend it ? I would be greatfull if someone will explein me the best move for that situation. I am new to chess ( 600 points). Thanks !

Take the Pawn but don't bother trying to hang onto it.

After 1. d4 e5 2. dxe5 Nc6 3. Nf3 Qe7 instead of playing 4. Bf4 (which allows Qb4+ forking e1, f4 and b2) just answer with 4. Nc3 intending Nd5. This returns the Pawn, but gives White better piece development and better center control.

Another alternative is to go 2.dxe5 and then 3.Nc6 push e6 and ruin white's plans. Yet another way to play is after 1.d4 e5 to go 2.Nc3 and decline the gambit at least once and only if black plays d6, then you play dxe5 and then you go D4 after the queen trade. When facing the Englund I suggest never going into the main line. Lots of idiotic tricksters use that excuse of an opening to beat you and gloat about it. Don't let them do that!
