Looking for good books for beginners

Hi there. For learning tactics try Chess Tactics for Students by Bains. For annotated GM games intended to teach beginners basic principles of chess try Logical Chess by Chernev (look for the algebraic edition, the earlier edition has old notation which can be a nuisance but ok if it's all you can find). Both are classic texts for a beginners bookshelf and will see you through to 1400. If you are interested in an endgame book then try Silman's Complete Endgame Course. Chapters are divided up according to rating range. It will see you through to 2000+. But first couple of chapters are ok for beginners then keep going back to it as you improve.

ultimate chess puzzle book by John Emms. its really good and has tactics ratings tests after a few chapters. it gradually gets more difficult and I would recommend it to anyone :)

Chess for Beginners : Israel Albert Horowitz.

This is probably enough information to get you 1000+
It doesn't seem like much, but in reality the biggest problem will not be the things in chess you do not know, but the things in chess you do know but don't apply. The majority of your games are not won/lost at below 1000 from advanced tactics, but because someone gave away their queen, or their rook, etc.
