Looking up openings and researching is the whole point of daily chess. As long as you don't use the engine.

I expect any fairly serious opponent to use all available resources in daily games, that includes using the analysis board and looking the opening database. I will do the same. Most of my games are out of the database within 10 or so moves, so I don't consider it to be an issue. Besides, if you want to play out of the database, you can drift away from the mainlines with your choices of opening. Doing so you can get games out of the book in less than 5-6 moves in some cases.
