losing badly

Hi all. I am a beginner and I am following the study plan for beginners. I was rated 1180 in rapid and 860 or so in bullet. After studying openings, tactics and strategy and playing many games, I managed to bring my rapid close to 1300 and the bullet close to 1050. But then I started reading the endgame, and suddenly I started losing, but really bad, I mean going down a piece in the opening, blundering like crazy, not able to finish my attacks etc. I am down to 1200 in rapid and below 900 again in bullet, and I am starting to go mad. I finished the endgame and I am now in the bringing it all together section, but still no improvement, it is like I got retarded. Worst of all is I keep losing also on endgames where supposedly I have the more fresh knowledge. Anyone had this experience before? Is it normal? Does it get better? I am not enjoying chess anymore. Maybe I should hire a coach?

Hi,

There's really a lot to learn in chess, so you don't have to be frustrated over a small rating dip. It happens to everyone, and it might have just been a single bad day of chess for you.

Around your level, I would recommend that you focus a lot more on openings and puzzles, and less on the endgame/middlegame. It will take a long time before you're able to put all three pieces together. The most important thing for you is to sharpen your tactics with puzzles, and get yourself a solid opening repertoire.

Hope this helps

Thank you for your response. I will give it a try, focus on openings and tactics/puzzles. However I thought that by following a study plan I would become better. So many times read that openings teach you opening but endgames teach you chess...

Huh. That's strange. I've been studying endgames as of recently, and my performances have plummeted as well...

It kind of looks like you are overplaying in general. I noticed if I played way too many games in a day, I blundered more and missed mates.

You've played 16 Rapid games today and 19 yesterday with even wins and loses. Maybe set a low limit to how many games you play so you can analyze them more thoroughly?

Guys thank you all for your answers and your bits and pieces of wisdom. This is very useful and encouraging material and I guess I have to stop whining and keep on studying and playing chess.
