Losing is the worst feeling.

I'm currently trying to snap a losing streak (with the exception of a draw), and I gotta say, losing in chess is absolutely awful. It makes you feel dumb, right? My last game I thought was going ok, but then he checkmated me in a way that I TOTALLY should have seen coming. It's frustrating. Anyone else feel this way? What do you do to get out of your funk? Just wanted to rant, thanks for reading.

I’m not good at losing any game but chess hurts more. I think chess is not about luck, so I feel stupid and angry when I lose. Not a great combo but losing is part of the game. If you was on a losing streak maybe you were tired or not concentrating?

A loss is always an opportunity to learn something new.

i dont think losing is the worst

losing without preparing properly is worse than losing itself

losing in chess is normal and it is fundamental to becoming better if you treat use a loss properly

in fact, winning a game where i am all puffed up like a peacock and then go to analyze and see how bad i actually played might feel worse than losing

I get this. I just won a game and I went back to analyze it and saw there were so many more moves I could have done that would have been even more effective, one of them leading to a checkmate. Alas, I won by resignation.

Oh, I've been there and back! I had a terrible losing streak on daily chess a while back and dropped my rating by 100s of points. Now I've had a similar winning streak. I've lost games where I played with 93% accuracy, only to have my opponent play at 95%. I've puffed myself up for winning a killer game, only to discover I played with 56% accuracy, and my opponent blew it with 14%. Losing is bad, yes. But better to lose at chess than in a duel.

Losing doesn't make me feel dumb...what makes me feel dumb is when I go review my game and see the dumb stuff I did tongue.png

If the feeling of losing online games of chess was the worst feeling i would ever experience, life would be great.

The downside to this site is the lessons are only available for Premium users. Not all children who have been introduced to the game of Chess will have access to funds to support their learning. Learning can be fun, and is a worthwhile exercise. Not having access  to a chess club, because of pandemic restrictions can be detrimental to Childs learning.

I love to lose. it helps me learn instead of feeling sorry for myself. I also have another policy: I don't give up until it's ends as draw/win or lose. People make mistakes, you'd be surprised just how much games you can win if you see things like I do.

Good attitude.  You will do well in this game!

I get this as im learning too, the other day a lost a few games in a row against people slightly higher rated than me and i felt pretty deflated especially when i made some costly mistakes, but then i won a few games against folk slightly lower than me and felt great.  So you could say for now im where im meant to be and if I want to move up then i need to get better and learn from my mistakes.  The bigger the mistake, the less likely you are to repeat it. (In theory)

this is real - it happens, it's okay, as long as you don't let it spill over into other parts of your life.

a rule i have developed which works well for me is that if i lose 2 ranked games, i switch to unranked for the rest of the day. usually that helps me reset and control the skids
