Most effective tactic books to reach elo 2000?

Hello,

I want to reach elo 2000 (OTB) by solving chess puzzles. I would say that I am around 1700 elo (OTB) and I think that I can gain 300 elo points more by focusing on tactics and endgames. My question is which tactic books are the most effective ones? I solved the first 24 puzzles of Reinfield 1001 Brilliant chess sacrifices and combinations and to be honest, I think the book has to many easy puzzles. Therefore I wanted to ask if you know some tactic books which are more difficult and which can help me to reach 2000 elo.

In the following blog article, I have identified several good, relatively advanced tactics books which are targeted to intermediate player and above....

You've only solved 24 problems. Just keep working the book. The problems will get harder.

Yeah that sounds like someone who says “I played the first 10 problems of puzzle rush and they were too easy” lol

“My System” by Aron Nimzowitsch?

My System is not a tactics book.

Interesting. Is it a positional book?

I have decided to stay with the 1001 chess sacrifices and combinations. Probably it will get harder.

How often should I repeat this book to reach a "tactical elo of 2000". I play for two years and I have a elo of 1700. Unfortunately, through Covid I could not use 9 months OTB chess but maybe it will be better in future.

Yeah COVID has held a LOT of restrictions on live chess tournaments but I found chess.com a few days ago and I love it!

Beginner here, I have a related question. Why use tactics books when you can do lessons and puzzles on this site. Is there an additional advantage?

In my view, there is a big advantage. I do not know much about chess.com tactics but on other websites the tactic puzzles are chosen by bots. A GM, IM, FM etc. who writes a book choses his tactic puzzles by thinking about how effective those tactic puzzles are. A bot cannot understand the methods of humans and therefore I think that the tactic puzzles of an author are more effective. The author was a beginner and he can understand the problem of beginners.

Even CT art and other programs are from books (for ex.:M.Blokh). So I think that tactic books are often more effective than tactics on websites.

The step up from 1700 to 2000+ isn't a matter of improved tactics.

Yes but for elo 2000 tactics is also needed. I will not work with my System, I think Mastering chess strategy by Hellsten is better and more effective. I will also train my openings.

So:

1.1001 Chess sacrifices and combinations by Reinfield

2.Mastering Chess Strategy

3. Opening books with games(mainly for e4, taimanov sicilian and Queens Gambit Accepted)

I think with many games and these books I can reach 2000 elo.

My bible for learning strategy was "Pawn Power in Chess" by Hans Kmoch.

just stick to chesstempo tactic puzzles. They tend to be far more realistic than what most books show you.

I think I can use both. I will try out chesstempo. The one day I train with the book and on the other day with chesstempo and I have a question to chess tempo. How big is the difference between real rating and chesstempo rating. I am talking about elo (and I know that the chesstempo rating only shows the tactical strength.).
