In this example there is a way to break through by playing pawn to b6

It also works if blacks c pawn captures the pawn on b6

Hope this helps happy.png

Nice example. Where did you get it?

I suspect that your sarcasm-meter needs adjusting.

From a teaching perspective, the above example is just terrible. It is way, way, way too hard for a very low rated player to follow what is going on in there. And anyway, that position is a rare exception where you can create a passed pawn without having a pawn majority to begin with.

Take the above example, remove the c7 black pawn and it becomes a reasonable thing to show.

That was what I meant by "your sarcasm-meter requiring adjustment". Or coffee. That works too.

Any decent endgame book that deals with pawn endings in any depth will have many examples of passed pawn creation......for example...

See Chapter 9....particularly, endings 126 & 127 (pp. 165-166)...

https://www.google.com/books/edition/Pandolfini_s_Endgame_Course/0ExlGOfTD7gC?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=pandolfini%27s+endgame+course&printsec=frontcover

In the following, see chapter 2, in particular the section "The Pawn Breakthrough"...

https://www.google.com/books/edition/Winning_Chess_Endings/7pPaDwAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=winning+chess+endings&printsec=frontcover

This book is full of pawn endings which demonstrate passed pawn creation...(use the "Look Inside" feature on this webpage)...
