Not a good first experience

So, I just played my first game online with someone from the UK. Game was moving along and I had his/her King dodging my two Queens (yes, I had two and I'm sure it was tedious), but I'm a beginner and was running out of time. He/she made some snarky comment toward the end of the game that I was "so slow" and that he/she had "tried to give me advantage." Blocked the person. Why be mean when it costs no more to be pleasant? Sheesh.

Thanks. I'll see how it goes, but that might be a good option. I'm from the school of "if you don't have anything nice to say then keep your effing mouth shut . . . or something along those lines.

Correction, I only had one Queen. The the gist of the story stands.

I do not mind chat. There is nothing anyone can say to damage me.

Breaking news: the world is full of idiots trying to make your time miserable, even when you do nothing that calls for that.

Ignore them.  Don't let them discourage you.

I for one try to be nice always, and regulary use the chat to congratulate or just as basic courtesy to thank for playing with a noob like me who can barely use his pieces. 

You are here to have fun and learn, right? Move passed on anyone who does not contribute to that

I have never chatted in a game. But then, who wants to talk to an old fart like me?

For me it almost never happens, most games just go without chatting except for the occasional "gg." Sorry to hear that happened on your first game, they were probably some random kid. Don't let it affect you

I avoid problems with chat by just playing 3-day games. 

But somehow you did 😉

You can turn on 'safe mode' in the settings.

Just don't read chat at all. There's a fair chance that it's trashtalk, or 'gg', which isn't that important anyway. If people don't add me as a friend to say something it's probably not worth reading.
