I wasn’t familiar with the term before your post, but from what I can see online it refers to a row of two or more pawns. They’re strong in that N pawns control N+2 spaces in front of them, but since they don’t mutually defend each other, they require support from other pieces or pawns.
So I wanted to dive deeper into pawn phalanxes. But what is the definition?
The internet just says "two or more pawns adjacent". But that doesn't cut it. The game examples to all kinds of phalanx tutorials seems to indicate that a pawn phalanx is "adjacent pawns in such a way that on its columns there's a pawn majority".
Who knows exactly?
