I usually play bots when I want to try some moves out. When I'm looking for more of a challenge I will play humans.

Interestingly when I play bots I am less anxious and don't really care if I lose the game.

On the other hand when playing people I get more anxious and really hate losing! Therefore my game suffers.

I know you are so correct!

I've went through all the basic lessons, I play the puzzles often, then started playing against the bots. I just made a simple, arbitrary goal for myself that once I got through all the bots in Beginner and Intermediate and was in the Advanced, or got my puzzle rating up to a certain amount, then I would try against people. That goal was tougher than I originally thought, but I just recently got there on both the puzzle and bots. The challenge got me feeling pretty confident though to play humans.

Bots waste your time.

An exception: playing set positions against full-strength engines is beneficial.
