points for opponent resigning

Why do you still get points for your opponent resigning even though they ain’t played a single move yet, my rating is way above what it should be but only cos people keep resigning, it’s a pain in the a$$ as you end up playing players who are far better than yourself 😡

You don't get points if they haven't made a move, or at least that's how it's been for me.

Ah yes, I was conflating the terms. But why resign at that point when you could just abort? I mean I guess some people are intentionally lowering their ratings. One opponent of mine resigned in a winning position and I checked their recent games and they'd been doing nothing but that. But how common is that?
