Query about descriptive notation in chess fundamentals capablanca

Hi,

I just purchased the book and realised it was in descriptive notation. I watched a video and learned how to use it but I don't understand what the t stands for.,for example K - Kt 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

K-Kt 7 means "King to Knight 7"  (in later years they would have written it as "K-N7").

That means that the king moves to the file defined by his own knight, and the seventh rank, from his point of view.

To make it more simple, here is a standard opening in algebraic:

1. e4 e5

2. Nf3 Nc6

In descriptive it would look like this:

1. P-K4 P-K4 (pawn to king four, for both players -- remember, it's from their point of view)

2. N-KB3 N-QB3 (I could say N-B3 (knight to bishop's 3), but there's an amibguity because both knights (the queen side and king side) could move to B3, so we add a K or a Q to make it Kingside bishop 3 or queenside bishop 3)

I hope that helps!  I've never tried to describe it before -- when I first started playing (50 years ago!) that was the standard in the US, so that's what I grew up with.

Thanks bud I found a few YouTube videos about it and I pretty much understand it now.
