Question re: analysis

Practice game, I am playing black.

When white plays 8.Qxb4 and hangs his queen, the analysis labels it "excellent."  How is this not an inaccuracy, not a mistake, not a blunder?

Basically, black was losing before that capture and the evaluation doesn't really change by taking the knight, so pretty much any move there is going to be considered excellent.

Hmmm? Martin might have something there... At the moment queen took the knight opponent is a pawn up, of course once the queen goes you'll be 7 points up

What does the black & white bar to the left side of the board mean?  I thought it means which side has the advantage at that moment.

Same here, a bit odd with the good move that loses a queen

After white blunders at 5. Bxd7+ the bar on the left side is overwhelmingly black.  Doesn't that mean I had the advantage/winning position?

Yes, the bar shows which side has the advantage. In your example, the bar shows an advantage to black of 4.2, which the analysis pane on the right reports as "-4.21". Positive values indicate an advantage for white, negative values (like "-4.21") indicate an advantage for black.

After 7. ...Be6, Black is attacking White's Queen and threatening Nxc2+, winning White's Rook.  C4 is the best move.  I guess that the computer calculates Qxb4, trading the Queen for a Knight as a second choice, is preferable to losing a Rook and a Pawn.  Material wise, it's a loss of six points either way.
