"Rapid" chess vs "Blitz" chess

Yesterday, I took a challenge. It looked like a normal game of "Rapid" chess, with a 10 minute time limit. When it was over, I was informed that I had just lost a game of "blitz" chess (Something I had never attempted before). So, now i have a rating of 361 in Blitz Chess, after losing one game ... and a ranking of 262 in Rapid Chess, after playing 94 games.

What is the difference between  "Rapid" Chess, and "Blitz" chess?

The both looked, and felt the same to me.

The difference between blitz, bullet, and rapid is the amount of time you start with. The fastest rapid time control is 10 minutes. Your one blitz game was a 9 minute game.
