Rapid. Avoid blitz for now.

Depends. 10/0 rapid is the most popular time format on chess.com but FIDE categorizes 10/0 as blitz. Personally, I play 5/5 blitz in lieu of 10/0 when I am exploring with ideas and middle game planning.

For rapid, I prefer 15/10 over 30/0 because the time increments are an end game saver.

Or sometimes I’ll play (3) 5/5 blitz game instead of (1) 15/10 rapid game as the time span are almost equivalent. I was guilty of playing 3/2 for league points lol at one point.

Rapid is the way to go if you do want to focus on improving.

I scored an averaged of 82% accuracy rating with 5/5 and 15/10 in the last 3 months which surprised me that it is possible to score accurately in blitz.

Rapid and Blitz are different

Play Rapid if you want to get better at chess, play Blitz if you think its fun.

You will improve faster in chess if you play Rapid instead of Blitz.

Also I wouldnt worry to much about skill getting worse if you play to much Blitz. I mean my most played time control by far is Blitz and I have manage to improve a lot over time anyway.

15|10 rapid is the best.
It is the official FIDE rapid time control.
Thanks to the increment you can always win a won position or draw a drawn position.

Hi all! Today I would like to ask, whether it is worth playing blitz for a beginner. Now I think it's probably better to play rapid, because there is more time to think about the move, look for combinations, tactics, and so on. But I don't know if (beginner's) skills get worse if I only play blitz in the long run.

I highly recommend rapid. speed is not important and can hinder your chess improvement. The best way to improve is this: Tactics, Rapid/classical, analysis (preferably with a friend/coach), and having someone help you out, be it a club, training partners, or even a coach. If you have any other questions just let me know, my dm's are open grin.png The short answer: Play Rapid

Both are fine.

I went from sub 1000 to over 2000 strength by largely playing blitz.
Probably 90% of my games have been 5 minutes or 3 minutes.

I "learn" chess by watching youtube videos and studying tactics and positions.
I apply what I've learnt in blitz. This is an unpopular way to do it as many people praise rapid for the "learning" environment. But to each their own! You can definitely do both.

Both to minimize massive tilts.

After 2 loses with Rapid play Blitz until 2 loses. Go back and forth with this method until you’re GM.
