Reasonable estimate

Hi,

The summer holidays are coming up and I am wondering what would be a reasonable estimate of what I could get to if I train 4-5 hours daily on tactics endgames openings etc in the 2 months I have between July and September except for a sailing trip for two weeks.

Thanks

Have you done many serious study days like that to date? Why don't you try one and see how it goes?

I partly did one in the last 5-6 days with puzzle battle and tactics, it has seemed to work out as my 3 min puzzle score has gone up to 25 with 10-15 3 min battles and tactics training alongside it

Given a choice I'd ditch the training and spend the 2-months sailing. As for the chess, its quality, not quantity that is important, so if you are planning 4 to 5 hours study try to build variety into your schedule, don't overly focus on one thing as the quality will suffer. Something like 30 to 45 minutes per item, with 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. Cover all areas. There will be a lag, expect to see it payback in the months afterwards. I presume you play long games (I didnt look).

I dont even study 5 hours a day for the stuff I do need, never mind chess lol. I agree with @MarkGrubb, put some variety into your study or you're going to get very bored very quick if you spend 5 hours only staring at book lines and putting them on the analysis board.

It's important to play, as well as study. Learning new concepts and ideas is fine, but you must PLAY in order to integrate them into your playing style.

Well yes, I should have implied that I was going to play in those hours lol
