I havent played for like 14years since i was in school but in school we always played 3 same places in a row not in the game - at least now i know

A draw by repetition is drawn by a triple repetition of POSITION, not by a repetition of MOVES.

That's how the rules work. It doesn't need to be the same moves, nor does it need to be three-in-a-row. Just the same position occuring three times, with the same player to move each time and the same movement options each time (eg: if castling is an option in one position, it must still be an option in the next two in order to count).
