I have encountered offensive usernames, some even based upon hate speech. You can help clean up the site by clicking on such profiles and selecting "report". Offensive username is a category you can select, and I know from experience that chess.com is following through with taking down these usernames. This isn't censorship. Creating offensive usernames is deliberately breaking the website rules, and I'm glad chess.com is working to enforce their community standards. We shouldn't have to play games against vandalized toilets.

People who get offended by online usernames, or free speech, or opinions, or oxygen consumers aren't people to be taken seriously. Most people get offended by things like bad drivers when you are already stuck in traffic. Or high taxes when you already don't make enough to pay them. Or a politician that has armed guards around them 24/7 says high crime isn't something to worry about.
So when someone says they are offended by an online user name, I mean REALLY? That doesn't even rank in the top 1,000 of things that could possibly go wrong with your life. I think I do pretty well. We have four houses, one with a mortgage. Successful careers, kids who are doing very well. Friends that always have our back.
But people who find time to complain about a username must be doing MUCH better than we are. Think of all the things in life that take precedence before you finally get down to that one.

Interesting thought, but if someone chooses to be offended bye a screen name so be it. Doesn't take much time to complain about a screen name. So I suspect many of the complainers are not nearly as well off as you madame.
But as I said, your point is interesting.
