Ah mate 2 more games and 2 losses, you should have trusted your gut!
Stopping when the going is good
Do people ever feel like they should stop when they are ahead? I have won 6 games in a row today, 5 rapid, 1 blitz. And while I feel pretty good about that, I also feel like I am tempting fate by playing any more today, also I know there is at least one game that I should have lost but my opponent missed the one move mate, and I ended up going on to win that game.
Yes, I've had the feeling. Though frankly it doesn't make any sense. What are you afraid of? Losing? Honestly I have felt this mentality is more damaging than if I lost every game I played that day after that. I mean, you win some, and lose some, the losses don't just not happen, instead of one day, they occur another, etc.

it's a little like going skiing - at the end of the day, you're getting tired, and you think 'ah, one more run and then that'll be it'....that usually ends up being the one i wipe out on

I guess, I come from a world of playing real life poker, so I play with things like a stop loss and a stop win, because losses have a very tangible impact to my bank roll, and I'm often playing with $500 to $1000 when I sit down at a table, so it's hard to break that mentality for chess

Yes. Chess offers a similar stop-loss to poker, business, the stock market, or pretty much anything with fluctuations. There is no use in constantly dropping precious rating points when you aren't mentally in it and likewise there is no use in tempting fate if you feel your focus etc. may be fading.

i once checked when things were going good, to discover i had a 9 game winning streak. i kept going and until the 15th game when i finally lost. i am not sure if i can duplicate that but i might..
ride out a hot streak for all that it is worth. as in horse racing you may be on a good roll ,but you better recognize when your good luck has gone away as i could do no wrong in november....but december came along and took that mojo away....it is not a gamling problem if you are winning right?

I won 7games in a row and that day I want to touch 1000 rating in rapid but suddenly I losed 2 game and at the end of the day I managed it to end up with 863 rating 😂😂😂😂😂
