Stuck at ~1000 rating and cant advance

I'm just stuck at 1000 rating and no-matter what i try to do i just cant get better. I feel like i just cant see things that are plainly obvious. Does anyone have advice for how to improve?

Yeah, if I see correctly, you are mostly playing 10 minutes per side games. It is a bit too fast for improving players.

This is what I did and still do:

This is a general guide of sorts that can help you improve, if you have some time for studying and playing provided that you really want to put in the effort. You don't have to do too much of this stuff every day, just do it in moderation you should progress steadily.

I hope it will help you out.

Thank you! I read your blog and it seems useful, i will definitely try to follow your advice.

You're welcome. Basically after you can't progress by only playing, additional effort is needed. That is where all those other things I've mentioned comes into picture. Youtube content is there because it is free but there are surely other options. Diamond members here have extensive video library at their disposal, and as you're a gold member, make sure to go through lessons. I've heard that there are advanced concepts there after a while. And there are chess books of course, but make sure to find something that is beginner friendly at the start if you want to read books.

After playing a game, Analyse it, note down your mistakes, Be aware of it, Avoid making same mistakes again and again. Use Chess.com Puzzles and Opening explorer to train your tactics and increase your opening knowledge.

Post your games with thoughts on your moves, etc. Ideally ones you lost.

sadly i couldnt say much about the first game, the second game was still in my brain though.

There is a flip board setting under the "theme" option.

Very little tension kept in those games, exchanges were made quickly, which cleaned up the field pretty fast. Didn't leave a lot of crazy turns with a lot going on, but I mentioned a few small things.

Is that a good or a bad thing? I generally try to trade when the option comes around. Also with the Rd4 thing i meant to put Rd8, i dont know how Rd4 happened there

Trading every chance you get isn't ideal, though as long as the trades stay even it's probably not going to kill you right now. You will eventually need to decide when to offer trades and when to accept them to move up more, sometimes it is best to leave the option open or avoid it in order to make stronger moves. It's a weakness, you can look at your games and look for moments where declining the trade might be better, but I wouldn't worry as much about that as avoiding making blunders that give away pieces outright. It will be more important as you move up though.

people have bad games its just an issue with your will to win, i mean its not like you really had to win. Theres good games where you win and good games where i or you lose. I mean personally idc about having a high rating. I dont want to put the time in just to be stuck at 1800 or 1500 by the time im 37. At 1000 theres stress on us to maintain a certain rating. It doesnt mean it reflects our peek ability or anything so why bother

I'm not sure what this has to do with anything. 1000 doesn't create any kind of unique stress. Clearly they are trying to get past 1000, hence them making the thread. I'm not sure where you are even going with this "peak ability" thing either.

Thats what I mean youre simply more aware of youre rating because i think most people know 1000 elo is standard, and believe in themselves enough that it bothers them so its easy to be stressed out that you may dip down below that rating. We know what its like to feel less than average lol and this explains what i was saying, im rated 1000 i solve puzzles and have strong tactics but i wouldnt hold up against a master id be crushed its like how much better can you get if say for instance me who is a well rounded player would get beat by a whole slew of 9 year olds lmao

I'm not sure where you get "most people know 1000 is standard". For example, the 1978 chart provided here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_rating_system (I pulled this link out of a quick google search for "what is a standard chess rating".) lists anything 1200 and below as "novice", (and there is nothing wrong with that, we all start there at some point), 1000 is the bottom of class E in the USCF rating categories on that link. I'm sure there are other interpretations for what these ratings represent, but in any case what you are claiming for a "standard" seems like a bit of a stretch. I think you are more likely making this statement because you are at this rating and it makes you feel better. Many players like to think of their rating as the norm. I have little doubt there are many 500 players who also think 500 is the norm, and 1500 players who think the same. This bias doesn't make them wrong, but it doesn't mean they are correct either.

Speaking for my own skills, I regularly float at mid to high 1300s, having broken the 1400 barrier several times. But for all that, I would not call myself a great player. I still make mistakes left and right that I should be able to correct, which is something I'm working on doing. The process of learning to fix those constant errors is how improvement happens. I'm learning, but it will take a while to find the habits I need to change to move up.

A player can decide how good they want to get at chess, there is nothing wrong with choosing to stay at a certain rating, whatever it may be. Still, if a player is trying to improve, I don't really think this is the place to be making the kinds of posts telling them about how they don't need to. I would save those posts for threads where a player is venting about the game, etc. rather than here and now.
