hello all,
I began chess in high school, joining the chess team for extracurricular credits. wasn’t too into it, but now 20 years later, i cant get enough of it… i’d like to get competitive with it, but i lack the patience to study openings, main lines, famous games, etc. any suggestions

You will love it and dominate it if you take like 15-30 minutes a day watching people Magnus Carlsen. You can spend like 3-4 games of 10-30 minutes. You can also study Openings:

https://www.chess.com/openings

Some of these openings you have seen a lot before, and you can click on each one to see what Is the best next move you can make, etc. I'd also recommend to study the Sicilian, as it is probably the most common used defensive structure. For Sicilian study things like the Grand Prix attack.

You can also study endgames like the "rook roll" or K+QvQ.

Study the basic things. Then master them. Lastly, have fun. Do NOT burn yourself out playing hours and hours a day, I have fallen guilty of this.
