What should a beginners first opening strategy be? One of my good friends is very good at chess and has been playing for a few years, but he can’t remember what he used when he just started out, so I thought I’d ask in here. Is taking center what I should do every game? Or should I try something else?

A Good opening strategy for Beginners is Checkmating the enemy King.

You want to attack the f7 or f2 squares because it’s the weakness squares on board defended only by the enemy King.

If you can get a Queen there with the help of another piece, it is game over for the opponent!

Everyone loves a Good Old Fashion Scholars Mate!

I recommend playing 1. e4 as White so your Bishop & Queen can come out super fast!

My recommendation is to ignore the center.

Taking the Center is just to complicated.

You don’t even know what to do once you have taken the center so why even bother worrying about complex strategies when we can just checkmate enemy King and call it a day.
