What is the best opening for white?

I play the English because I like to keep all pieces on the board if possible and favour the bishop pair over knights.
If that sounds like your preference, dm me.

Some how it led to this when I was taking a shot of Irish Whiskey?

"I always play my opening for white poorly." ++ And how do you play your opening for black? If you play your opening for black well, then play a reverse system as white.
"can someone please show me an opening that can help me get all my pieces active and useful?"
++ The 4 moves with the best reputation are 1 e4, 1 d4, 1 c4, and 1 Nf3, but you can open with any other move as well. Just play the opening slowly and thoughtfully. Carefully think how you can place your pieces active and useful. Always think about the center. Lasker formulated 4 common sense rules to play the opening:
1) Only play your d- and e-pawns
2) Play your knights before you play your bishops
3) Do not move the same piece twice
4) Do not pin the KN with your QB before the opponent has castled O-O

The opening is not your problem. Your problems are
1) Playing the opening on auto-pilot.
2) Not paying attention to your opponent's ideas.
3) Playing too fast.
4) And most importantly, poor tactical vision.
To fix this, play slower and evaluate your moves before you make them (try to prove your idea wrong - if you cannot, play the move and ask your opponent to do so), and practice your tactics.

Hi! There is no "best" opening, otherwise people would only play that. There are several first class openings for White, mainly 1. e4 and 1.d4 (1.c4 and 1. Nf3 as well). There are also general recommendations according to the player's level. Generally speaking, 1. e4 is normally the choice for novices/beginners , because they can lead to Open or Semi-Open games -so you train more tactics. Then 1.d4 would be from intermediates and beyond because they normally lead to Closed games - more prone to strategy. Finally the Flank Openings like 1.c4 , 1. Nf3 recommended for advanced players, because they require a relatively high understanding of the game.
Good luck!

Don't forget to mention that openings like 1. e4 for example are played at every level, including the super GM level
It's not just an opening for beginners

Choose the opening that will give you the kind of positions you like to play. Not those that give an advantage to GMs. I often open with f4, g4, or even h4 (which has a logic and is not that terrible) because I want unusual positions where both sides are on their own. As Tal said "don't always play the "best" move- play the most interesting move that will give you the most interesting position." Most amateur players are somewhat cowardly and lose their nerve when they get out of their comfort zone.
But that style isnt for everyone, just an example - choose the opening that suits your style. I can suggest openings for people I play with, but suggesting the "best" opening for someone you dont know is silly.

Hi! For sure GMs play everything, normally 1.e4, 1.d4, 1.c4 and 1 Nf3 are the mainstream openings at the highest level. Perhaps I should clear my point. What I satated was a recommended learning path instead of an opening choice according to player's level.
For instance, for a beginner I wouldn't recommend to start learning 1. Nf3 and I would insist in first learning 1.e4 instead.
Good luck!

Thank you so much for explaining this! As a beginner, I've heard that "e4" is more tactical and "d4" is more strategic, but I didn't understand what that meant. This gives me a much better understanding.
