White to move.  What is white's best move?  Consider all captures and checks to help you determine what the best move is.  This position came from one of my games that I played today!

AZ2019chess
Bishop b6
AZ2019chess
Bb6 fast=fast checkmate

I probably would have went with Qf6+. But the Bb6# is definitely the better move.

Bb6 is the fastest mate it looks like. At first I thought Qf6, but bishop would just take and you'd lose queen.

Then again, how many times do you get to sacrifice your queen and still win? happy.png

Even if bishop takes, you can play Bb6 checkmate right after.

Commando_Droid

how about 1.Qa5+ Rxa5 2.Bb6#?

another alternative is 1.Ba7

or 1.Bd4

or 1.Be3

why are people saying qf6+?

bb6# is a checkmate or am I missing something?

Because people were missing that after Qf6+ there's Bxf6. And then some titled players came by and started suggesting moves to win in style rather than mate in 1, like sacrificing your queen first before checkmate. I mean, 1. Ba7 is just aesthetically more pleasing than 1. Bb6 checkmate happy.png. Imagine going to your friends after the game and getting to say "Yeah, I made this 1 move. He could take my queen, he could take my bishop, but whatever he'd do, it would be checkmate!" You have a story you (and they!) can tell for years! 1. Bb6# just doesn't give you that.

Bishop b6 is checkmate I believe.
