when to quit match without losing points

I have two questions.. Sometimes I quit matches and lose points and Sometimes not.. why is that The other question, what is the green little square that somtimed appears on my profile picture

The square is if you're in Live Chess, but not currently playing a game.

If you don't want to play any more, you should resign your game. Unless your opponent hasn't moved yet, this should always make you lose rating points.
