Why are you allowed to use the opening explorer in daily games?

It seems like looking at other games could give an advantage. Or is the reason it is okay is that the moves are moves that were played and not necessarily good moves?

You can use the opening explorer, books, etc.

You can't use computer engines.

Those are the rules of correspondence chess: you can use any resource except chess engines, table bases and help from other players. This means you can use books, magazines, opening databases, videos and lessons.

It isnt an advantage as both players have same opportunity and have access to the same resources. It's a tradition in correspondence chess that players are permitted to research their games.
