Ccn9180..You're not dumb at all. Keep practicing.Chess takes patience with time. At first,my ratings got up to 200 plus. I realized I had to do the puzzles, writing the basisc down on paper, and refer to them, so it stuck in my noggin. I nearly gave up,had a few days break, then went in,git my ass kicked kept the ego away. Turned it around by saying I'm learning off this player,I'm learning.

i just want to know why does this happen. Whats the reason i end up as a stalemate?

One way to avoid stalemate is to try to check the opponents king every turn in an endgame where there is very little material on the board while working towards a mate.

Also, just take a second to make sure that your next move leaves the opponent with a legal move in response.

Mostly just takes time and practice. I found that drawing a few close games to stalemates made me mad enough to make the effort to check the two things mentioned in this post during endgames.

The most likely reason is that you don't know what stalemate is. You might think that you do know, but I bet you don't. Just google it, and you'll be surprised.

Pay more attention to avoid stalemate.

Stalemate is when the opponent has no legal moves and is not in check. When the opponent is down to his King make sure he is either in check or has a legal move after you make your move.

Like others said, the trick to avoid stalemate is to think about your opponent's next move as well as yours. That skill is useful in a ton of situations, and soon you'll be spotting your opponent's ideas to attack your position, seeing your hanging pieces your opponent could take, and so on.

Well, you don't know that.

One way to be dumb is to go by what you see at first glance instead of looking carefully prior to make a decision. And that's typically what everyone tends to do when they begin at chess.

Some begin longer than others. It very much depends on how hard you want to improve. When you want hard enough, you try to resist the impulse to play first thing you see, and eventually, you make more and more considerate moves and less silly moves. Hence get less stupid stalemates out of winning positions.

Make sure that your opponent always has ONE move available to make.

Hey @ccn9180 @MAHERTHEBOMP nothing to worry about, don't take it too hardly as these happen even in quick top level play. In case you would like to read a bit and do some simple exercises, check the article below:

And here's a Support article with a video and some examples:
