Woodpecker Method - Gone Wrong...?

Sort:
TheOnoZone

I started a cycle of tactics on chessable using 'Common Chess Patterns' by Benedictine, I am on day 4 of cycle 2 and I am not managing to solve the puzzles any faster and today my accuracy was even lower than with the same puzzles the first time around.
Does anyone have any experience with the method who can maybe point out if I am doing anything wrong or if this is normal for a beginner who hasn't had much exposure to much tactical puzzles before starting this challenge.
Any advise/reassurance welcome.

Do you want to be a chess player or a problem solver? First answer that. Any problem I see from a source like the woodpecker method, My System, Silman endgame prophecies, etc... I research current games that would ideally have these positions talked about.

Otherwise, it becomes a crosswords puzzle obsession. You need to find context behind these positions.

I would just not worry about it, you might be having a bad day, take a break, work on something else.

OP, keep practicing. Also, it’s a lot slower, but the way to do the puzzles is to think through all the moves before you make the first one. Convince yourself of the correctness of what you’re doing. I suggest at first setting the timer so it restarts instead of showing you the answer when it runs out, then take the time you need.

Your goal should not be to go fast, it should be to be correct. Speed will come on its own, as you remember the patterns.
