Hi guys!

Do you think that the chess will be good subject in school? I think yes!happy.png OK, many students think that chess players are boring nerds and they aren't funny. And we know it's not the truth! Chess like a subject will be so cool and super for everyone. Btw it's more interesting and funnier than normal sport for megrin.png I played florbal but I scored with one goal (and it's own goal, I was surprised that I was alone, who was happy in my teamgrin.png). Chess is really funny, we know it and chess world need new players.

So, what do you think about it?

Kamilotka

Yes, I know but I meant ches like a subject. No club. But ok, clubs aren't bad.happy.png

I think that the popularization of chess at schools is good of course, but I don't require it as a compulsory subject. The clear potential drawback of chess being compulsory is that not every child has to like it and a way of education that is effective for someone doesn't have to suit someone else. I've written a term paper about the influence of teaching chess on children's problem-solving skills, so I think I know pretty well what I'm talking about. happy.png

Thank you for your answer!happy.png Yes, chess could be just voluntary subject. You have a truth. But if I will be a teacher, I will make some 1-2 chess hours for students. And who will be interested, he could be in a voluntary chess subjecthappy.png

Chess will definitely be a good item.
There are a number of countries that are worse in many respects than the Czech Republic, yet chess has been one of the subjects in the curriculum for a long time ...

I learned it in school over 40 years ago

OMG, really?happy.png

Somewhere chess is a compulsory subject, but it doesn't matter how it is. Especially so that chess is in the school curriculum.

About spring of 1914 I was asked if i would come to a high school where troubled kids were sent in Santa Rosa, and pregnant teenagers went and teach chess to any student for an hour at lunch time. I accepted to give it a try. It started once a week in the lunch tables. I set up two boards and had several kids come to play. .

I was asked by the kids, "When are you going to come back?"

"Well i can set it up twice a week."

I set up four boards the next week and they were waiting to play and learn some things.

They also brought their strongest player and he was big and nobody messed with him.

They set it up he would play me his first game. I didn't have a problem with him as he only knew piece movements, no combinations.

I taught them things as it happened but it was only 1 hour a day while they ate lunch. It lasted several months until the end of the semester. Then they offered me a chance to actually have chess be an elective class with a teacher supervising. I took it and it would start at the beginning of the Quarter . . .

I brought my 20 boards, handouts and my demo board to the room and waited. The teacher didn't know chess. . . . I would treat everyone as beginners. . . . To my surprise  24 students had signed up without restrictions as to the grade they were in.

The first class was learning the pieces location and their movements. I also used some of the students that i knew could play to help when there was a question.

To me it was a success. It was a class that i would give a grade to the students.

The next week we lost four with two new ones joined. So it was working.

The third week FAILURE happened only four students showed up.

I asked "What happened to the rest of the players?"

one said, "They went to see a movie. They had a choice to see a creepy Halloween movie or chess."

Twenty chose the movie. The following week only 10 showed up others chose to go to a Thanksgiving School art preparation. With three leaving after 20 minutes . . .

I met with the principal because i couldn't have a class without students following my curriculum.

So the class was cancelled and i didn't do the chess lunch program either.

That was the first time that chess as a class was tried in A California School. . . .

But as it turned out, so it turned out. The seed was planted. I believe that to this day they at least know the basics, someone can do even more; launches, combinations and more.

Yes this is a good idea, just like society in ancient China! But I prefer chess to be an elective subjects☺️

We had chess as a subject in my school, but it was very boring as the teachers only taught the basics. And they told us to watch videos as homework, which only half of the students did. However, it was only provided as a subject for grades 1 to 5.

Luckily there was a separate chess club which was more productive.

Chess would be a great school subject!

I played chess at school. This was my favorite pastime during which I could relax and escape from the stress of schooling endlessly writing essays. My writing skills are poor and I always needed help in this matter, and including statement of purpose help because independent attempts to write a personal statement ended in hysteria. Only playing chess distracted me.

Yes, chess would be a good school subject since it teaches kids how to think!  That's an important skill!
