before i post this, i'm warning everyone that this is meant to be in jest and humorous. ok? chillax!!!!!

reasons why chess (the game) is bad should be banned:

1. it's racist ... whites vs blacks.

2. it represents elitist, monarchist society ... the entire purpose of chess is to protect the king and the first ones to get killed are the pawns!

3. it has a caste system ... each piece has a 'value', with some pieces being superior to others and more valuable.

4. it encourages violence and glorifies war ... the premise of the game is to conquor and kill your enemies.

feel free to add some more ...

djbl

well in that sense it perfectly mirrors real life...dont u agree?

This post belongs in the second tier of repetitive posts, after Who's the greatest, Are women as good as men, What's your favorite piece, etcetera.

Not so bad I guess.

dsmeaton

i'm just bored and being a bit silly ... so i don't know what the facepalm is about! ;)

I'm guessing first tier would be resign threads?

dsmeaton

hence, i had no idea that this was such a frequent topic ---> though, i could have guessed.

The point is to keep repetitive threads to a minimum allowing people to be able to search for info quicker. There's no reason to repeat something that's been covered.

EternalChess

Another reason why its so racist because white has a higher chance of winning then black.. right?

amitprabhale

Ok if U feel so... i'll give U chance to play as Black first.

I have always wondered why the "stay at home mom" gestapo has never tried to ban chess in schools and programs. I mean they even changed sesame street so cookie monster eats veggies and oscar the grouch isnt grouchy.

You gotta love fanatics, they are the ones who are warping their children into bombing abortion centers and protesting gays etc. --- ever notice that the people who protest violent games and books like Huck Finn, are some of the most aggressive angry, pushy, stubborn, etc. people around....? I wont even bring PETA into this...

maybe they should play a violent video game and get some release before they snap.

There is value in repetition.  A given idea is easier to search for when it is repeated not only in multitudes of places, but in a multitude of variations.  This is similar to the seamingly meaningless reptitions of patterns within human DNA.  It may seem more efficient and logical to have an idea only appear once, and in only one variation, but it's chances of survival will tend to be lower. If you designed a version of the human DNA molecule, and removed all of the parts that seemed repetitious and/or that didn't seem to code for any actual genetic features, you would have a much, much lighter molecule.  However, it would be much more unstable as a recipe for a human because any given mutation would then be alterning an essential feature of the molecule.  To summarize, there is value in repetition.

Only statement 1) given by the OP has an indisputable bearing on race anyway.

southshorechess

chess is chess is chess

LeHibou

And anyway, the sky *isn't* blue - nyerrrr nyerrr!

TheChimp

Is chess speciesist?  I love chess, but why in chess are non-human species completely ignored?  Clearly other species such as chimps, donkeys and parrots play on chess.com.
