I would have to say a combination of both.  I miss music videos from the 80's.  they were the best.

I miss the videos, too. Funny you should add this video, it is one of my faves on my Ipod.

These can't be the original lyrics, right?

And the guy's name was Head.

(I used to like the 80s horror show Friday the 13th The Series, made in Canada, and the leading lady was a redheaded french canadian named Robey who also had an obscure singing career----one of the songs she covered was this one.  Now that I've heard it, I'm wondering WHY?  And why do so many different acts do a cover version of this song?  I mean it's powerfully odd.  Which brings me back to the name Murray Head.  Doing a song about Bangkok.  While being named Head.  Which reminds me of the band The Talking Heads.  Also from the 80's.  Was this era of MTV responsible for making the world super-dumb like it is now?  Or were adults already super-dumb back then and I just didn't notice because I was a kid?   It's probably a question every new generation asks once it gets old enough.  Or maybe this time it's really true and the editing style in 80s music videos is what doomed an entire decade of youths to semi-retardation and that's why we're seeing the end of the American empire today.  I blame the Fine Young Canibals.

Not just the big hair, but also the white suits and skinny ties.  There was also a little bit of kick-boxing in there...early Mixed Martial Arts.  This video was totally ahead of its time. ;-)

I endured 4 minutes of this song...I need to teach this guy how to write songs, for real...too much pizazz, not enough of anything real...it reminds me of spray-on gold or something!  :-)  Sorry to be critical.  I know it had the chess references, but I think it is cool that you found a video that showed chess in a different light than wood pieces on a wood board.

It was written by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, formerly of ABBA, with lyrics by Tim Rice.  It was part of the West End production Chess.  It never made it to Broadway, as far as I know.  And you can be as critical as you want.  In the absence of goldleaf, spray-on gold does has its usefulness.

I know, my comment is not a welcome comment too much on here...but I didn't trash the guy's forum...and yes, I am sure spray-on gold is fine too...just a saying.  Too glittery for me.  I guess that is one of my character traits - I generally don't like songs from musicals, because they are more theatrical in nature.  Nothing wrong with that, just not me.  But don't take it as a burn on this forum.  I appreciate his love of this song, and I thought that parts of the video with the chess symbolism were cool.

Don't take my comment as if I said it sternly.  Think fun critical...like spray-on gold, you can't take it too seriously!  :-)

Wow great video, thanks for sharing this. I have heard the song but never listened to the words.
