The problem with nonStaunton chess sets is that it is often quite difficult to tell the pieces apart. Be prepared to have others flat out refuse to play with your set. The only set I would agree to play with is the first one and then only if no standard set was available. Of course if you just want something for display then it's simply a matter of personal taste. If you're over 12 years old though, the dragons and fairy sets may cause some laughter at your expense. Just one man's opinion...
Dragon chess set or fairy chess set, medieval or mythological?

"The problem with nonStaunton chess sets is that it is often quite difficult to tell the pieces apart."
Definitely agreed. I just like how decorative the non-Staunton pieces are.

I'm kind of the only one in my family who plays and I would never bring a specialty chess-set out of the house especially if it costs $100+ dollars unless to be on display.

Yeah, the first one is the easiest to tell the pieces apart.

Looking for mostly display. As a history and religious studies major, the Poseidon set and the Medieval set fascinate me and I'm obsessed with things related to fantasy as well.

I'm a 23-year-old college student but I'm an introvert--only people who would probably find out about what sets I have are my family and possibly a close friend who I might just simply show the set off to. As most of my friends are girls any way, I doubt the fairy set would cause too many problems and one of them knows my obsession with dragons already and told me I should be a creative writer.
I personally would argue that the sets are impractical to use, but great for display. I have a few decorative chess sets but would never ever use them to play with - for the most part, they just sit with pieces arranged in one opening tabiya and look pretty.
Love the look of all the sets, but if I had to pick one, it'd be the dragons. They look freaking cool.
All these things interest me. I'm wondering which one I should get.
