Perhaps he had already finished the schnapps and refilled it, with the water being the "chaser"!
drunken chess

That's a good story.
I have sometimes played after drinking and the results vary, for example when playing with my friend we draw or sometimes I win!! but when I play here at chess dot come I usually get my ass kicked easily.

My first cousin is a rather strong player. He has beaten me hundreds of times, so one day I got a case of beer. I just sipped on one can but encouraged cousin to keep drinking. Many beers later cousin finally lost a game to me.
I hope to win over my cousin again on day, so I enrolled over here at Chess Mentor. Diligent study should allow me to give my dear cousin a better game. I do not know if I will be able to prevail over him again.

I was fairly hammered in my first ever tournament game and I was crushing my opponent being up a rook+2 pawns for the exchange.
Sadly, it didn't end well because I ended the game hastily(in a loss) in order to catch the tail end of happy hour at the rather expensive bar in the hotel.

If you are lucky to beat someone that's a much better player then you, never ever play him again.
this is a really funny story I heard this really happend:
A player turned up at a tournament with a bottle of schnapps and he took a sip now and then everybody thought he had lost it and was really drunk
The opponent he played against could not take him seriously and made some incorrect moves because he thought he could allow it in the condition "the drunken " player was in.
the opponent lost the game as the content of schnapps bottle was water.
