The reason soccer will never become major in the US is the ridiculously slow games and the miniscule scores. When 0-0 or 1-1 is considered a good game, there's a problem. And yes a professional football game may take three hours to play the 1 hour of actual game time, but the stop and go and extreme speed of the individual plays makes it feel like a very fast game. Soccer I can watch for ten minutes, turn it off for a half hour, flip back and nothing will have changed at all....thus seemingly extremely slow.

That doesn't make sense as a difference, or why soccer is not popular in the U.S. Soccer is very exciting. A 2-1 game is just as exciting as an American football game; 14-7. And how do you account for the popularity of baseball, or golf?
There seem to be two glaring reasons why soccer is not very popular here. One being, America has never been very competetive in male soccer. Two being, not enough commercial breaks for advertisers here.

My picks to come out of the first round
Group A: France/S.Africa
Group B: Argentina/S.Korea
Group C: England/Slovenia
Group D: Germany/Serbia
Group E: Cameroon/Netherlands
Group F: Italy/Paraguay
Group G: Brazil/Portugal
Group H: Spain/Chile

Baseball and golf are popular because they allow you to get drunk (I mean really smashed) and shout random cheers in between people hitting stuff. I guess that is what soccer is, but we just haven't realized it yet.
Football is like chess
the goalkeeper is the king
nights is defenders
bishops is wings
rook is like mid players
queen is striker
