Idol Games

I have thought that, there should be another button when playing an oppentent, and they are idol for awhile, you may click this button and if they do not make a move within a certain amount of time, the game is aborted. I think this due to myself ( and everyone else i presume) have waited their for a ling time, so their oppenent may make their move. Also to be far, in case the player is thinking, make the button available only after a certain amount of time such as 3-5 minutes, in the other palyers turn. Also make the time after the button is pressed, like, 5 more minutes before the game has been aborted. Also, so it is fair, each player will not have a damage on their score.

Really nice of you.

So let's see. Hypothetically, I play you in a highly analytical position in a game where I can afford a 11-12 minute think in a very critical position. Sure, I'm nothing like a titled player, but assume I sign up for a G/30 or a G/60 game and am training to be a better player, I sometimes roll up my sleeves and deep-grind into a position with a lot of tactics or calculation. I believe that's what the cool kids who play serious chess do ... so sue me for trying to play like them and take my time in critical positions.

After my "prolonged" think-festival, I may still  screw it up or play a bad move based on erroneous calculations, but it's my choice to make, as per the stated rules of the game we both signed up for.

In your scenario => All of a sudden ...on my turn, the game is aborted with a "Don't worry slowpoke , the rating doesn't get affected" smiley-face?

If this is done for the first few moves of the game, sure ... I'm with you.

However, if you wanted this feature anywhere else ... then may I ask if  you also plan to have Chess.com Fedex the 10+ minutes of my life back which you took away because you couldn't patiently play a game of chess according to a time-control that you signed up for?

Also if I was winning prior to your awesome abort button adventure,  do you think I (or any other player) would actually be okay with this?

Don't get me wrong ... your idea is genuine, tries to help and your post attempts to take care of having to deal with people who really abandon a live game till their clock ends ... but the last time I checked, this is still a small fraction of all live chess players and furthermore, you can actually report repeating offenders to chess.com.

We could certainly do something better than force-abort based on an arbitrary think-time that works for you but may not work for another chess player.

There is no need to be rude. It was a thought, sorry that I did just think of it 5 minutes before I posted it. Sorry I did not think of all thing things people argue against. But you make a good point, on thinking instead of actually abandoning the game, meaning, your thinking and not just gone. Instead your could be sent a message during the game and it asking you if you are thinking, and if there is no reply, then the game is ended. Sounds dumb, but its a thought, that coud speed games up, and so people do not get frustrated.

Oh and besides, I don't need a lot of time, I am not a pro. In fact, I suck at this game. I am just here to have fun, I don't want to become the best chess player in the world, so therefor, I posted this becuase I am tired of people taking the wholegame time to make one move.
