I think it's a puzzle of some kind...it's pretty simple if it's White to move and win, just 1.Kxe4+ and the endgame is completely won. If it's Black to move and win, the position is much less clear, but personally I favour 1. ...h2+ 2. Ka8 followed by pushing the i-pawn to reveal discovered check from the knight; which seems to give Black a forced mate in four hundred and twenty-eight point three moves (margin of error 0.71 moves).
