This puzzle appeared in my chess club's newsletter this month (Penketh Chess Club in Warrington, Cheshire). Please note that the diagram-generator will not allow me (or will it?) to create a position without both Kings on the board; please ignore White's King, as it is meant to be missing from the board.
White's King has been accidentally knocked onto the floor. Prior to this, there was a legal position and White is moving up the board.
Two questions need to be answered:
1) Which square did White's King occupy before it was knocked from the board?
2) What was the position two White moves earlier.
We have been tackling the puzzle for the past few weeks and are all stumped. I won't have the solution until our November newsletter comes out. However, I thought you might have fun tackling the puzzle in the meantime.
