micro-organisms
who is the smallest animal in the world

This hasn't anything to do with chess so it should be posted under the Off Topic section.
Nonetheless, I actually think the world's smallest animal would be a nematode. They can be found at the bottom of an ocean.
Here's a picture of a Gastrotricha:

The 6 kingdoms of life: Archae, Eubacteria, Protista, Fungi, Animalia, & Plantae
- Amoebas - belong to kingdom Protista, not Animalia. They're not animals.
- micro-organisms - Bacteria belong to kingdoms Archae & Eubacteria. Virii do not belong to any kingdom--Scientists still debate whether they're alive.
Nematodes seems like the best guess so far. Beatle nematodes are 285-340 micrometers long-that's pretty darn small! And they actually are animals.

likeforests,
your posts are usually pretty accurate and I'm out of my depth here, but....
"The 5 kingdoms of life are: Animalia, Plantae, Fungi, Protista, Archaea, Bacteria."
....isn't that 6?

Hah! You got me. I just double-checked the names:
Archaebacteria, Eubacteria, Protista, Fungi, Animalia, and Plantae

google gives this

sstteevveenn - Most sites seem to classify Amoeba as Protista not Animalia. I'm no biologist so I have to defer to other resources on what is an animal.
See:

The 5 kingdoms of life are: Monera, protista, fungi, plantae, and animalia.
Amoebas - belong to kingdom Protista, not Animalia. They're not animals. micro-organisms - Bacteria belong to kingdom Monera. Virii do not belong to any kingdom--Scientists still debate whether they're alive.Nematodes seems like the best guess so far. Beatle nematodes are 285-340 micrometers long-that's pretty darn small! Just to let you know, they now recognize 6 kingdoms: Archaebacteria (also called Archea), Eubacteria, Protista, Fungi, Animalia, and Plantae). The rest is correct.

Everyone I am learning about the 5 (or 6) kingdoms of life in Biology so i know what i am talking about :)
The 5 kingdoms are:
Animalia (animal kingdom)
Plantae (plant kingdom)
Fungi
Monera (aka bacteria)
Protoctista (other)
There is a 6 kingdom system but they do not use it quite yet. They might in the future though.
