X-Men Chess Set

Sort:

Chess sets have come in many different themes, and many have been discussed here.  My personal favorite (at least in my collection currently) is one in which the pieces are all football players - The University of Michigan Wolverines vs The Michigan State Spartans.  Go Blue!

Many times as I play chess, I hear Sir Ian McKellen's voice in my head saying (as Magneto from the X-Men trilogy), "In chess, the pawns go 1st," or "Still unwilling to make sacrifices?"  So this is the chess set I would LOVE to see:

Piece - White - Black

King - Prof. X - Magneto

Queen - Jean Grey - Mystique

Rook - Wolverine - Sabretooth

Rook - Colossus - Juggernaut

Bishop - Cyclops - Pyro

Bishop - Storm - Callisto

Knight - Nightcrawler - Toad

Knight - Beast - Lady Deathstrike

Here's where I need some help.  For the White Pawns, I have: Iceman, Rogue, Kitty Pryde, Angel, Jubilee, Siryn, Psylocke, and I still need one more.

For the Black Pawns I was thinking of having Multiple Man be all of them, but there were so many mutants in X3 that I figure he can be just one.  I just don't know the names of any of them.  From IMDB.com, I just figured out that Porcupine Boy is really called Kid Omega, and we also have Arclight & Jason Stryker who make great pawns, but I still need 4 more.

Once we've finished casting the characters, does anyone have any idea how I might go about getting one made in reality?  Somebody's got to do stuff like that, but where would I go to find them?

I thought I had seen a X-men chess set out at Christmas, but I could not find any thing on-line about it.  Here is a cool link to a site that shows the work in progress for the set that will be manufactured. http://www.statueforum.com/showthread.php?t=33399

Moira MacTargget or Leech might be a good choice for you last white pawn if you want to stick to the movie. If not Banshee, Longshot, or Gambit might be good choices.

 Mastermind, Sabastian Shaw, Sentinels, Arclight, Quill, Spike, Secretary Bolivar Trask, Multiple man, Senator Robert Kelly and/or Agent Henry Gyrich if you're looking to stay with the movie for pawns. A few of these characters are a bit shady. I would probably use the Sentinels as my rooks. If you would like to stay with bad ass evil mutants (and lose the movie theme) you should check out;

 Good luck

I am not sure if there is one out or not of the X-men but I would thing you would have to get Stan Lee or Marvel or whoever owns the rights to them to agree first but before that I would look into a patent pronto to protect the idea

Not sure how much a patent lawyer costs but you will want to get one to researcht o see if one is out yet

for an X-men chess set. Of course because you do not own the rights to the X-men they may say no outright for a patent

I will look to see if I can find an X-men set

one more thing...as for making the set there was a sculptor that used to make themed sets about 10+ years ago...he worked in pewter and was considered one of the best pewter sculptors ever. He had a show room in Church Street Station in Orlando Fl I do not remeber his name but his sets went for like $1500 new but as soon as they were made the sets jumped to about double immediately

In your lookings if you find someone that fits that description let me know because I have been

hunting for one of his sets

I'd have to say that Iceman is not a pawn unless your going purely off the movie,  cuz at marvel.com you can read that he is one of a handful of OMEGA 5 level mutants which include ( The Professor, Magneto, Gene Grey, and other uber mutants)  they only down played him in the movie so they could have that little love triangle thing.

Bishop would probably make a good bishop. Laughing

Has anyone made such a set yet I think this would be a hit for I just thought of it the other day and this forum is all i have found on the web.

I made a set out of Heroclix characters.  My stepson and I spent hours deciding which character should be which piece (even down to the placement of the pawns).  I'll see if I can find the pictures.

That will be the first chess where you could play the Gambit's gambit.

That board would also bring some tactical enhancements: Attraction tactics with magneto, x-ray attacks with psylocke. Overloading with cyclope. Forking with wolverine. Interference with Storm. Distraction with Mystique.

I saw a Mario Bros. collector's set just this afternoon at Movie Trading Co. in Richardson, TX.  I was there looking for a copy of Searching for Bobby Fischer. Just fyi.
