3 seemingly solid wins . . .

*** Sorry, the title is wrong. I was going to post 3 games, but decided to only post 1. Sorry to be a bozo . . . ***

Hello,

I'm relatively new around here and to chess as a passion. My dad taught me how to move the pieces when I was a kid (I'm 35 now with 2 kids of my own) but I never really "got into" chess. That started to change a few months ago . . . I downloaded the shredder app for my iphone, picked up a few books, joined chess.com and started to see if I could at least become a "decent player".

I thought that by playing more games I could improve more quickly so I started playing 1 minute games. I favor the Scotch as white and decided to study the French as a response to e4 as black . . . My rating is in the mid 1300s here on chess.com for 1 minute games but when I played longer games, 5 minutes lol, I would get crushed. I just wasn't thinking well, or wasn't thinking well enough for the longer game situations . . .

So I went back to the books and started to play more "longer" games. I know 3 and 5 minutes aren't "long" but I'm taking baby steps lol.

Anyway, here is a game that I played yesterday on chess.com. I'm not sure about the culture around here so I changed the name of the person I played so as to not ruffle any feathers.

In my very short career here at chess.com this is probably my best win and it actually came within minutes of 2 other solid wins. Maybe it was just a hot/lucky streak?? I'd love to get some feedback from any you guys on the game below.

Thanks!!

Pretty crushing win there. You certainly did take advantage of your opponents passive play.Smile

Nice game! - you handled the opening much better than white, and once the knight was in on d3, it was all over but the shouting. Ok, 6...c4 wasn't really necessary and you may have been a bit preoccupied with boxing in the bishop (b5; Nbd7) but by move 10, you'd won (though perhaps white could have survived a bit better - 14. Qxe4 was a blunder, as the knight cannot move to give discovered check as it is pinned to the king - I would have played Bd2, trying to get the king out of the line of fire on c1).

The only thing I could really suggest would be to play a few more games at longer time limits - say 10-15 minutes, to have enough time to come up with some deeper ideas than when playing bullet.

10...nd3+ ultimately ended up being great for me because of his blunder on 11.kd2. But looking back, it seems like 10 . . .ne4 would have been the better move. That looks like a very solid outpost for a knight, and I guess once I get out of the faster games, good moves will have to be based more on overall strength than the possibilty of some quick pressure forcing a mistake.

Thanks for the comments. This really is an incredible website with lots of great members.
