700 vs 1000 rated player 93% accuracy

Hey everyone, so my rapid elo as of today is 742 and for the 3rd time only I end up scoring a 90%+ accuracy game in the rapid format, against a 1017 rated player, and I thought maybe I can get some feedback on where I can improve as a player if I end up sharing my game on the forums. So I would really appreciate it if you guys take a look at it and tell me your opinion on my style of play. Thanks in advance, I appreciate your support.

Well this was a draw, not a loss but I still felt like i should post it to discuss and learn from the mistakes I made. I'm definitely checking out what the engine has to say though.

This is a game you can learn from.  Posting speed chess games, concentrating on percentages, and accuracy does NOTHING to improve  your chess.  All it is, is an ego feed.

Actually- as you played at 90 percent there aren’t a whole lot of mistakes you made. If you post a game that you didn’t perform poorly at it can be hard to give clear improvement tips. However there is one thing I did notice wich is that you are willing to trade a lot of pieces. I get that the less pieces are on the board the less you can blunder but always remember just because you can take it doesn’t mean you have to. Also do you want a rematch some day? Last time we played you kicked my butt ; )

Yeah that makes sense, however I feel like I'm missing out on some key components that can improve my style of play a whole lot, there are a couple of things which cannot be shown by the engine such as the areas where you lack the most, whether it's the opening middlegame or endgame I'm pretty sure I can get some interesting replies in here. Also, *you* kicked my butt last time we played its not the other way around 😭😆

"I feel like I'm missing out on some key components that can improve my style of play ..."

Youre a 700 rapid player.  Your style is blundering.

"there are a couple of things which cannot be shown by the engine such as the areas where you lack the most, whether it's the opening middlegame or endgame..."

Think of chess engine as getting the answers to a test.  Sure you'll score 100%, but you wont learn, or understand what you just tested on.   Engines do not explain "why".  That is where humans come in.

  • Now that IMBacon said it I can’t resist but to agree with him there. I was a bit scared of saying it myself but what he’s saying is not just hating without any reason but actually a fair point.

Well it is true that speed chess games are not helpful at all, but this is a 10 minutes rapid game which is not considered quick chess at all, there are some areas that I'm looking to get feedback on such as strategies I missed etc.. So thats why I ended up posting this especially that it ended up on a draw even though the engine mentioned that i was in a winning position so I certainly missed winning moves, so I thought maybe getting feedback from this game wouldn't be bad. But hey, I appreciate your feedback it actually is a fair point.

Haha well you see all it took for me to gain 400 rating points on chess.com was 300 chess matches. Experience is kind of a big deal in chess and when playing regularly you’ll get that 1000 Elo in no time:-)

Aye, yes sir I appreciate the kind words. It truly means a lot, and also meanwhile I'm going for 1000 elo, you should be able to climb all the way up to the 1200s. I know you'd be able to reach that in a matter of weeks.

You had 1:39 left on the clock.  So you made 75 moves in 8:21.   You spent just under 7 seconds per move.  How is that not speed chess?  And how are you supposed to find thing you want to work on spending 7 seconds on a move?

Im not trying to bust your balls here.  Its just that this is asked constantly and its always by speed chess players.  Then some will say "I dont play speed chess"  You look at their daily games and they play 30+ moves in 1 day.  It doesnt matter what the label of the time says.  Its how fast you play.

Hey again. I’m on phone right now so boards and stuff are complete cancer to go through (random zoom in), but do you know how to annotate? If your right click on a move and press “comment after” you can annotate your moves. It would be nice to see your thoughts again on some key moments so we can see if you had the correct thoughts, and/or show a better way to carry out your plans.

Oh I see, well I appreciate your concern and honesty. I think I'm gonna be implementing higher time control games into my matches in order to improve. Thanks once again, I appreciate your feedback.

That reminds me of another point. Often people under 1200 tend to play quick in the opening because of frustration, being bored of it or just getting distracted by your little sister. Once they blunder all their pieces they start to think in the endgame because they are out of the opening and are not actually used to thinking and calculating anymore. Just try to stay calm in the end and not overthink the position. Also happens to me quite often

Yeah, overthinking a position can be really bad at times. Definitely a huge factor for winning games. Thanks for the reminder!
