A brilliant move... and I missed it

good game, I messed up a lot. thought there were two ways of getting my bishop out, turns out there only was one. I moved my king as I thought youd either go forth with trying immediatly to get the bishop or instead capture my center pawn, but missing the pawn push hurt me, and then not escaping with more for the bishop as I couldnt aviod 2 checks from your queen as the queen trap I saw was all wrong.

I'm no grandmaster but I'll give my thoughts on how you could improve your game.

Develop your minor pieces first! Queen move before either knight moves is asking for trouble.

Another things is that you should avoid useless moves. Ask yourself things like "What is the purpose of 14.Nb5?" It threatens the queen, but after Qc7, the knight's only safe square is a3. So in effect, what you've done is you've kept your position the exact same. Black's position is almost the same. The only thing different is that it is Black's turn. So you are basically throwing your turn away with that move. Of course, you opted not to move your knight to safety so black just got a free piece, which is of course something else you should avoid doing.

Checks and threats can be good, however don't just threaten or check without reason or a continuation. This goes along with the same logic as the earlier knight move.

Take your time when looking for moves. In a complex position, there can be some kind of defense. 24.Qf7 looks good to me for example. If the knight takes the piece,

24. Qxb7+ Ka5
25. Qc7+

seems to win the rook or the knight and a pawn depending on how he reacts to Qc7.

That's all I can think to offer up. Very nice eye on that knight combination. Thought that was pretty spectacular. If your knight wasn't en prise, it would have given you a nice little advantage with the black king on the run and your king nestled safely away.

what about 24.Bd6

I decided to leave my knight en prise, because I had seen an aforementioned fork which won a bish, not realising that the B was protected. But now I dont feel that bad about it. After all, I did see the move. (To McFischer) Didnt think of Bd6, but that was because I thought trading Queens and offering a draw was the best way to go.
