A gambit analysis

Hi,

Played an interesting live chess game here today against Greatgam that ended in a draw, and I thought to ask for comments. I had the black pieces, and played a rather aggressive gambit line. 15 minute time limit.

Here's the game:

6.... e4!?, I must admit, I am too greedy not to take it.. I am interested to hear your reasoning on not taking it.

You are quite correct in your analysis on move 9. Binding up Whites development is a main point of this gambit Bc5 was better.

15. Kc2?? As below Bf5 + wins quite easily.

16. Bxa7????? Bf5+ 17. Kb3 Ra8

You gave several ' ? ' to moves undeserving, such as

mn94xd - thanks for the reply - it seems to have been cut short, but I'll comment on what I can see.

About taking the e pawn on the sixth move, you're right, it would have been simpler and probably better too; I think I was just taken aback by d4, and never really considered the obvious carefully enough. I also think that my after game analysis was rather hasty - should have been more thorough before posting.

And yes, 15. Bf5+ would have been the way to go - after 16.Kb3, and retreating the black bishop, white's light square bishop's got nowhere to develop, and white looks to be in trouble.

You said "6. Bxa7????? Bf5+! wins a piece" - I think you mean move 16, not 6. :)

Bf5+ is good here too, of course, but I don't see the tactic to win a piece - after Kb3, white's out of check and threatening the black bishop. I'm on an internet cafe computer, don't have a side board with me right now, and can't seem to play variations on the analyze board of the game in my archives, so I'll have to look at this more carefully at a later time.

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated!

The gambit is considered as correct by theory.

Be sure to check out 3. ..e6 too.
