White has just moved Ba3. Black have some different options to consider.

1. I take the white bishop, but to what purpose?

2. I move the bishop to g5 attacking the queen.

3. I move the bishop to f5.

How should I think? What is the  best move? I'm struggling to find a clear plan here.

If this is an ongoing game then we can't comment, however if it is a finished game then please post the whole game

Why do you need the entire game? And yes of course it's a finished game (maybe the way I formulated the question sounded otherwise =p). I just wondered what to do with my bishop in this very position, The computer recommend Bg4, but I am not sure why that is the best move. Anyway I played d4, which probably wasn't a good move.

Taking the bishop misplaces the queen.  The queen doesnt do anything useful on a6.  However, the bishop is not doing anything useful on a6 either, and bg4 develops your bishop and gets the move back by forcing the queen to move.  This is called "gain of tempo" -- your are gaining time to extend your development advantage.  So bg4 would be my choice.  Basically, my plan here is just to extend my development edge and keep improving my pieces.  Your center pawns are not super-mobile and you'll need to pick the right moment to advance them or they will become weaker.  I think it would be instructive for you to play against a strong engine with this position and see how D4 doesn't work out so well.  Just by occupying the central squares, they are helping where they are.  So maybe follow-up with something like re8 depending on what he does.

You could take the bishop and then advance your pawn from c5 to c4, which would fill 2 purposes, locking the white queen in a crappy position and opening up for checking the white king+advancing the knight.

I apologise if my comments caused offence, as for posting the whole game it gives me a better sense of what both players are thinking, just my preference , I'm with America_de_Cali on the move order Bxa6 Qxa6 c4 then the white queen is locked in that side without support

Bg4 develops, gains a tempo and connects your rooks. that's not bad for one move. follow up with c4 (isolates his bishop) and then reroute your dark bishop over to b6 (via d8) to pressure the white king.
