In the icon menu (below the text menu and above the chessboard) there are buttons for "Edit" and "Analyze". Edit turns the engine OFF, Analyze turns it on. Load your game and click Analyze.
Arena GUI Analysis

What I need is an automatic analysis by the engine.
To start with, in the menu, "Engines -> Automatic Analysis..."

Hmmm...
Press the F1 key. Click on the Index tab. Click on "Automatic Analysis". Click on the "Display" button at the bottom of the screen. Read it.
I gave up with arena and now I have Chessbase light. It's not perfect, but it's easier to figure out and get going.

I loaded Arena 3.0 and had trouble getting the F1 help window to come up, looking for a "legend" for printed symbols. Perhaps it doesn't like Win7 64. The program works fine, just not the help window which takes forever to try to load, then causing a "Not Responding" error most of the time.
I use Fritz 13 which has plain talk comments embedded with analysis if you want, but of course it's not freeware. To be honest, I use Arena on my laptop on the road and have never tried the game analysis function.

That's strange. It likes my Win7 64. I've never had the F1 help window not function for any Arena version I've used...100% reliability for me.
Yeah, the Arena help isn't perfect. It contains a lot of information, but not every conceivable topic. It could be much worse than it is. I wasn't able to find a legend for the printed symbols, but if you right-click on a move in the move list window, then click on "Move: Long Comment", it will bring up a dialog box with all of the symbols you can add. Then, if you hover the mouse cursor over a symbol, a short definition of the symbol will appear in a bubble window.

I ran a game through Arena 3.0 and did not see any "green characters." Can you post a picture or screenshot of what you're talking about?
In some GUIs, you can specify that all variations or alternate lines are shown in some color of your choice to differentiate between the main line played and the alternate or move preferred by the engine. I never use that function since my printer is not color capable. I did not see any colored text on-screen.

Mr.Schereh, it's time to answer me!
I guess that's my nickname?
I was planning a response...but I see that we're now demanding responses? Well, you can go pound salt for all I care.

The green lines are the lines seen by the chess engine as its choice (or at this early stage more likely opening book moves from a database if you installed one), and the line used to calculate the white/black advantage as seen behind the black move. The black moves in bold are the actual moves played in the game analyzed. The color of the engine lines can (probably) be changed if you prefer red or some other color. Alternate lines are usually placed in brackets "[ ]" and sub-alternate lines in italics, at least that's the way Fritz 13 handles it. I can't see the whole right side of the screen but that is normal GUI convention.
Hi friends,
Can someone give me help on analysing in Arena???? I have one of my games loaded & Houdini 1.5 engine loaded, but I don't know how to analyse. If anyone has any helpful information on how to analyse played games in Arena, I would be grateful.
Thanks!
