Hi !
I have recently decided to learn how to play chess as a new year resolution to change my mind and I'm really enjoying it so far ! I've been strugling to find an opening that I feel confortable with to get to the middle game and I liked a lot the London System while watching others playing it and looking for tutorials. It is one of my first game with this opening and I would really appreciate any help to improve myself on the main lines.

Thanks a lot for your time and have a nice day !

Best regards

I am a beginner who has gone down the London System path as my first opening for white.  I started with the "Ginger GM" videos on UTube. There is a lot of material available. I think you will enjoy learning this system.

I would have strongly preferred 2.d4 over 2.Bf4, but since you wanted to play a london system game I'm not sure I can hold that against you.

4.c3 is premature, there was no serious threat against d4 and you should in general prefer developing minor pieces over pawn moves. I would have much preferred 4.Nd2 or 4.Nf3, keeping the option of playing c2-c4 in one move open.

You also had an easy mate in 4 after queening, unless you were low on time I strongly recommend trying to find these kinds of mates rather than mating in 14 moves.

The London system is good until a certain point, but you will have to find something else if you really want to improve.

I have exactly what you are looking for:

Short & Sweet: The London System

This is a free chessable course that explains the basic ideas and helps you memorize the moves by using spaced repetition. You learn the moves and are drilled on them later. You are drilled more often on the moves you get wrong.

It was made by IM John Bartholomew. His stuff is always top notch. I highly recommend anything produced by him.

Like most beginners,I highly suggest going into the open game with 1.e4 and maybe play the Italian Game or the Ruy Lopez Exchange.

Italian Game:

Ruy Lopez:

This is basically my repertoire with White against 1.e4 e5.

Sorry that the second position is sparsely annotated,I got tired sad.png

On a recent thread... a GM was quote as saying london opening is good right up to master level.

Obviously not exclusive... but most anybody has a reply to queens gambit these day... stuff like london and colle can take player from their comfort zone.

Magnus still plays it

Be2 Is much stronger than Bd3 against the King's Indian Defence. it takes most of the bite out of a possible Nh5 shot by black.
