Well, I have tried to play through with taking the pawn and if white takes rook (which I would do in his place to be honest, would not see the threat of further material losing), I would eventually end up getting ton of material and opening King's position (if I calculated correctly). However, if white doesn't take the rook and recaptures pawn instead, it would be pawn for pawn, but probably that open file for my queen next to the king is the most important aspect, why the pawn take is better than defending the rook straight away? However, if white takes with f2 pawn (which computer says is best option for white in that position), there is not even open file for queen, so in the end, I am still not sure, why was pawn trade better move than defending the rook straight away.
Hi, I have recently played a game, in which computer recommends taking the pawn instead of defending the rook, as depicted on the picture. I guess sacrificing the rook would weaken the king and maybe eventually leads to winning more material, but I cannot see it all the way to the point, where I would profit. Or material does not matter here and it is all only about weakening the King's position and getting attack possibilities/eventual check/checkmates?
Thank you!
