Diagonal Pawn starting move without capture?

Sort:

I have recently started playing chess again (been quite a number of years), and I was playing the computer this morning and there was a pawn move I had never seen before.  I tried to look it up online but I could not find it described in any of the places I looked.

Black advances 2 spaces to h5, White castles O-O, then black advances it's g pawn diagonally, the move was recorded as gxh6

I tried it myself in human-v-human analysis mode and as long as the sequence is black advances any pawn 2 spaces, white castles, then black can move a pawn into the skipped square left behind by the first pawn.
Can someone please help me out here, I am going crazy to understand this move.

There is a bug on the Play vs Computer on the app. I don't know if it only impacts one version or not. There have been a number of topics about it but I don't know if staff has commented on any of them or not.

Are you playing on iOS or Android?

Perhaps the move that scrith describes partially fits the criteria of en passant captures.

But if it is not (and scrith well knows the en passant), then it may be a bug.

Based on the description, it matches other topics about the same thing. There is a bug and it might only impact one of the apps, but I would have to track down some of the posts to see if people posted how they were playing.

This is not a bug. It is a special pawn move called en passant [you can find information about it here(https://support.chess.com/article/4570-illegal-pawn-capture-glitch)or here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_KRIH0wnhE)]. The rules about it is you have to get to a position where you have a pawn on the 5th rank for white or a black pawn on the 4th rank and the other player moves their pawn 2 squares directly beside your pawn (Example: you have an e pawn so en passant can only take on the d file or f file) then you can take like shown above in the screenshot or if the same pawn that moved only moved 1 square. Then you can take the pawn of the board. Notice that the same position appears when you move the same pawn 1 square also.
