i did the same thing. i played when i was bored. lost 100 pts. only play when youre in the right frame of mind.
Dropped 100 points in rating in 24 hours

@arkodhar
You only play Blitz. This way you'll never learn chess. Play long games, study and practice long games. You will learn methods, patterns which are also useful in Blitz.

That's been my experience too... Most folks around here are pretty darn good, and if you're not focused, they will beat you...

I did the same thing 2 weeks ago, I went from 1550 to 1450 in one day. I've been very slowly clawing my way back up since, I'm now on 1480 but it's far from easy! I took out a premium membership and have been doing a lot of tactics trainer and puzzle rush. I think it really helps.
Here is my advice for what it's worth:
Do 50 tactics a day, and try to get your puzzle rush high score up.
Do the lessons on chess.com, especially the ones on opening principles - in your last game you moved your queen out on move 3 - don't do that.
Learn two openings, one for white and one for black. Start with something simple, like the london system for white, and the french defence for black.
Best of luck!

Been stuck since 1100 for one year despite playing over 1000 games. I need help. I was going till 1200+ and today kept losing in a bad streak lost over 100 pts...
I think that pretty much everyone who plays chess regularly has experienced huge, unexpected rating drops before. This is frustrating, but probably normal for we human players; a computer can play a certain level every time, but our minds are a bit more inconsistent (for better or worse). I can relate to your 100 point drop and so can many others I just dropped a 100 points recently too (for those that ask: it wasn't one terrible day, it was a string of like 4 bad days together - but that isn't really the point here). The main point to take away is that chess is a greatly mental game. With that said, expect ups and downs as normal and try to get through it mentally (although not always easy). I notice that when I have a huge unexpected drop, I often times then gain it back and surpass my previous highest point. Sure it usually takes a lot longer to gain back than than it did to lose, but I think the huge drops in rating might indicate a huge gain (assuming that you are still training correctly, studying, in right frame of mind etc.)
This forum helped me a long time ago when I was in the same boat I'm in now and you seem to be in too. The rating numbers aren't too relevant, but the advice for handling and approaching rating drops is relevant. I'll post a link to the forum that helped me: I hope it will help you too

Playing only blitz games isnt gonna improve you thats agreed but tactics and blitz is required for you to be sharp so dont you remember that. You need to work with tactics around your rating you can get up to 1600-1700 easily with solving tactics and reading about basic stuff.

A while ago I was at my highest 1604, and the very next day I dropped to 1450.
All psychological cal because I kept thinking “I should win against these low 1500 people because I was 1600” but I conveniently forgot that I needed to think against those people. Still clawing my way back up there.
+/- 150 pts variance is normal. You can't expect to be on top of your game all the time. Today you lose 100, tomorrow you win 100

Play slow, daily games (1 - 3 days per move). My daily rating is 400 points higher than my blitz rating. Analyze your games whether you win or lose. Watch some youtube videos to learn more about the game. If you struggle in the opening, pick an opening for when you play white and when you play black, and play lots of games with those openings. Start recognizing patterns. I can recommend this playlist of videos - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSA9se6t82I&list=PLQsLDm9Rq9bHKEBnElquF8GuWkI1EJ8Zp
I dropped 200 points,in Blitz,in the last 3 weeks.....Doesn't bother me in the least. My OTB is pretty good,in my local club play and I experiment in Blitz.....a bit too much.I also play way too late into the night....like 3a.m......Don't use Blitz as a benchmark.Just use it for fun and to keep juices flowing.
As mentioned by good intention members here,I study daily, from books,do tactics and of course the lessons here and on You-Tube(The John Bartholomew stuff us a blast).
Good luck and thanks to the folks who chime in with good advice.
I'm absolutely garbage at every format of the damn game....
I still enjoy it...
I only play the computer...Its not half as up its own backside as when you meet one of the "real" grandmasters....enthralling game

I have dropped over 100 points in the past week or so. It's a bit like watching a train wreck in slow motion. I am trying to be philosophical about it, but it is still quite frustrating - especially if I blunder a winning position or discover in analysis that I missed a 1 or 2 move checkmate because my attention was elsewhere on the board. Having spent some time reflecting on this, I have decided to simply ignore the rating altogether. It is what it is. If I try to win back the points I understand I am operating from ego and not focusing on playing the best chess that I can - which I probably won't be in this frame of mind. This can and does lead to more losses and more frustration. I study when I can, and I go into each game playing to win, but focusing more on playing good moves in the position. I set a limit of games to play and always analyze my games win or lose. My goal for each game is to consistently play accurate moves and improve my overall accuracy over time.
Been stuck since 1100 for one year despite playing over 1000 games. I need help. I was going till 1200+ and today kept losing in a bad streak lost over 100 pts. I am tired of losing. It just makes me feel this game for geniuses and idiots like me should quit! Need expert guidance as to how can I improve my game? Do I need to play a lot and or just play little play smart or just quit the damn game because after 1000 games over a year if I am still stuck at the same rating, maybe I am just a dumb player who is not at all suited for this game?
Whats the best way comeback? How break away from a losing streak? Has anyone here done it before??
I like the game but the motivation factor is all-time to low.
