FEN:

Hey, I would just like to ask, what the FEN means? I see the code that is given with every game. I've heard it has something to do with chess search engines, but since I am clueless about them, I would just like to ask, what does it all mean and how do you use it to help?

FEN is a notation that describes the board's position at a moment in time (very useful for describing a puzzle situation, used by people & chess search engines).

Is that way it keeps changing?  If at the end of the game you can download the PGN is there no real reason to keep track of every FEN?

I have been saving my recent games with FEN line by line in a word document thinking it may be useful when i analyze the game later.
